Hospitals across Cheshire and Merseyside are experiencing extreme demand in their Accident and Emergency Departments and have had to declare critical incidents.

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have both declared critical incidents with increased flu incidents and winter pressures putting their emergency departments under strain.

NHS England have advised the general public to either ring 111 or contact NHS 111 online first for advice but Mersey Care's urgent treatment centres (UTC) and walk-in centres (WIC) are available for non-emergency illness and injury.
