State of Mind Sport is a charity that harnesses the power of sport to promote positive mental health among sportsmen and women, fans and wider communities, and ultimately to prevent suicide.
State of Mind Sport raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health and well being and deliver education sessions.
The State of Mind programme was established in 2011 with the aim of improving the mental health, wellbeing and working life of rugby league players and communities. Dr Phil Cooper MBE is a Nurse Consultant and Clinical Transformation / Suicide Prevention Lead at Mersey Care was the co-founder, trustee and education lead / clinical presenter with State of Mind Sport.
State of Mind offer a variety of Mental Fitness sessions and this includes their Extra Time sessions which we help to deliver.
Back in April 2022 Mersey Care teamed up with State of Mind Sport, Widnes Vikings and Zero Suicide Alliance to support the ‘Extra Time’ group at Widnes Vikings DCBL Stadium.
The sessions aim to raise awareness of men's mental health and have a focus on:

- Zero Suicide Training
- Depression Management / Safety Planning
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Resilience Building
- Anxiety Management
- Alcohol / Drug Use
- Managing Money
- Bereavement by Suicide
