Our Services
Jenny Hurst appointed as Mersey Care’s new Chief Nurse
Jenny Hurst has been appointed our new Chief Nurse, will now serve as a voting member of the Board of Directors and will oversee the Trust's strategy for quality, nursing, allied professions and psychology.
Formerly the Trust’s Deputy Director of Nursing and Director of Infection, Prevention and Control, Jenny will provide and strengthen professional and clinical leadership throughout the Trust. More information can be found on the news pages of our website.
‘Help Us Help You’ helps minimise NHS disruption over festive period
Our ongoing 'Help Us Help You' campaign, which requests Cheshire and Merseyside residents seek advice before attending busy A&E departments, helped the region manage the challenging Christmas and new year period without significant disruption.
It works alongside the region's health system to help alleviate pressures on A&E by encouraging people to choose the most appropriate service for their health care needs. Our robust winter/resilience plan has resulted in just 2% of community patients who attended their walk-in and urgent treatment centres being referred onto local hospitals. More information is available on our website’s news pages.
NHS 111 mental health options extended across Cheshire and Merseyside region
Those living in Liverpool, Sefton, Warrington, Knowsley, Halton and St Helens can now access our urgent mental health support directly through NHS 111.
The freephone number, which is available 24/7 and 365 days a year, has an option to ‘select mental health option’, which has been made available to more areas in the region.
It means more people experiencing a mental health crisis will be able to talk to a member of our crisis service. Our specially trained mental health staff will speak to callers, discuss their urgent needs and assess what the best way to support them is, depending on their symptoms.
Community Pain Management online event
Members of the public were able to join in a live Q&A session online hosted by our Community Pain Management service, which allowed them to ask questions and find out more information about coping strategies.
Around 60 people joined the session and were able to ask questions of Dr Chris Barker, Clinical Lead for the Pain Management Service, Becky Simm, Senior Clinical Psychologist, Mo Patel, Advanced Clinical Pharmacist and Mark Brown, Specialist Physiotherapist.
Some of those who contributed had conditions including M.E., fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain and back pain. The webinar is available to watch below and more information about the service is elsewhere on Mersey Care’s website.

Fancy joining our 2025 Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge?
If you’d like to join us for our second year in the Yorkshire Dales and #MakeItMerseyCares in 2025, registrations are now open! The challenge takes place in June and involves climbing the three mighty peaks of Pen-y-ghent (694 meters above sea level), Whernside (Yorkshire’s highest peak at 736 meters) and Ingleborough (723 meters), over a distance of 24.5 miles.
It’s a great day full of camaraderie and achievement and is a great challenge for those wanting to take part as a team with friends or colleagues. Hikers are supported every step of the way by a team of mountain guides who also offer a series of training walks for no additional cost.
Fundraising enables the charity to fund a range of innovative initiatives across the Trust, enabling our specialist mental health and community services to do more, beyond the scope of the NHS.
You can find out more and register on the Mersey Cares website, which also includes information on last year’s event to give you an idea of what it entails. Or you can look at a list of other challenges for 2025 that are supported by the Mersey Cares charity.
Take inspiration from Rachel’s story
As part of our Make It Mersey Cares campaign, we’re celebrating the incredible fundraisers who have supported our Mersey Cares charity and the personal stories behind their involvement. One of these inspiring individuals is Mersey Care Talking Therapies, Rachel Munn, who took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge last year with her colleagues, helping to make it our most successful group fundraiser to date.
Rachel’s fundraising story is truly remarkable - and follows a life changing diagnosis when she was 32 weeks pregnant. Her interview, on the Mersey Cares website, talks about her journey, how physical activity and fundraising have played a crucial role in her recovery and why she’s excited to take on our Snowdon at Night challenge in August.
The Life Rooms delivering new Public Health courses
The Life Rooms are now accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) to deliver courses and qualifications to improve their service users’ understanding of mental and physical health. RSPH is an independent health education charity and the world’s oldest public health body.
This exciting opportunity to deliver accredited courses at The Life Rooms gives communities and individuals in Liverpool and Sefton the opportunity to improve their own health and wellbeing. You’ll find RSPH courses in Health Awareness, Understanding Mental Wellbeing, Nutrition for Health and Encouraging Physical Activity on The Life Rooms timetables in Walton, Southport and Bootle.
