Mersey Care has won the prestigious NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award for its work in international recruitment and a commitment to providing high quality pastoral care during the employment process.
NHS England confirmed Mersey Care as a recipient of the award for their work with internationally educated nurses and midwives during the recruitment process and their employment.
This included supplying candidates with a booklet prior to their starting date which included information about bank accounts, registering with a GP, information about their pay slips, cost of living in the UK and a point of contact for any advice and questions.
Chief Nursing Officer Ruth May endorsed the award, which was launched in 2022, for helping to standardise the quality and delivery of pastoral care, with Mersey Care having recruited 38 internationally educated nurses since March 2022, including 15 in the last six months.
NHS England said the award "recognises the incredible work being carried out in your trust to ensure these colleagues receive enhanced and tailored pastoral care as they start their NHS journey and onwards in their career."
In response to the nationwide recruitment crisis across the UK, Mersey Care launched their own campaign 'Spread Your Wings' last year, which aims to attract candidates locally, nationally and internationally for a wide variety of roles across the Trust.
