Who we are
Our Speech and Language Therapy Team provides specialist assessment, advice and support for people experiencing communication, swallowing, stammering and voice difficulties.
We work with patients to help manage and minimise the impact these difficulties can have in everyday life.
We visit patients in their own homes and also deliver services from the following clinics within the community:
We also work with service users in the Trust's mental health inpatient wards in St Helens.
Who is our service for?
This service is available for people over the age of 16 who are registered with a St Helens GP or who are in one our inpatient units.
We work with health and social care professionals involved in your care as well as charitable organisations such as the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Referrals for dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties) are made using the referral form and are accepted from GP's consultants, other health professionals and nursing homes that have been trained by the service.
Referrals from health professionals for communication, voice and stammering can also be made using the referral form and are accepted by any health professional.
Self-referrals are accepted for communication, voice and stammering by the patient, family member or carer and are accepted by telephone to the service on 0151 244 3383.
One of our speech and language therapists will meet with you and talk to you about your medical and social history, your current difficulties and your expectations of the service. We may need to conduct an assessment if it’s appropriate.
