This is a multidisciplinary team designed to provide rehabilitation input for adults presenting with long term neurological conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease. Support can also be made available for people following a recent acute neurological injury like a stroke or traumatic head injury.
The service consists of the following professionals:
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapist
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Vestibular Consultant
The vestibular rehabilitation part of the service provides a multidisciplinary approach to adults experiencing dizziness, vertigo and imbalance caused by conditions affecting the vestibular and balance system. Conditions include Vestibular Schwannoma, BPPV, Vestibular Migraine, PPPD, MS, stroke and Vestibular Hypofunction.
The Speech and Language Service covers the area of voice, dysfluency, head and neck oncology, dysphagia and neurology.
Patients must be registered with a GP in Southport and Formby to be able to access the service.
Patients can self refer or with assistance from family members, GPs and heath care professionals.
Please be aware if you have any sudden onset of the following symptoms to contact your GP or emergency service. ( New weakness or altered sensation, new speech or swallowing difficulty, sudden changes of vision, loss of consciousness, sudden loss of hearing, severe headaches, continuous dizziness.)
The service provides rehabilitation at home (including nursing and residential homes) or at the gym (located at Southport Health and Well Being Centre). We will work on rehabilitation goals tailored to individual needs, with the aim to achieve best possible outcomes.
