Referrals can be made by any professional such as a health visitor, midwife, family nurse, GP, Social Worker, Early Help Worker.

Child and Young people's Mental Health Service

The Mersey Care 24 hour response team is for young people up to the age of 18 experiencing emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties which are causing difficulties in their school, family or social life. You can contact the team on 01744 415 640 – 24 hours a day seven days a week

 All referrals to our CAMHS services should be directed to our CAMHS Assessment and Response Team. Download the CAMHS referral form or call the team for more information on 01925 579 405.

Children and Young People's Community Eating Disorder Service

 We deliver the service in partnership with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and leading national eating disorder charity Beat.

Assessments will be at Knowsley Resource and Recovery Centre at Whiston Hospital. Young people and families will then be able to attend their regular appointments with our team at a venue closer to home.

To meet the service referral criteria, patients must be 8 to 18-years-old and live in St Helens. You can use the SCOFF questionnaire screening tool to help determine whether your patient would benefit from a referral to the service.

Speech and Language Therapy - Children

Our Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in St Helens provides evidence based services that supports children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties and/or eating and drinking difficulties. 

Our team includes speech and language therapists, therapy assistants and administration support. Speech and language therapists are allied health professionals who are required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Our professional body is the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Neurodevelopment Pathway Team

Orthotics

Orthoses are used to treat many common medical conditions. They come in many shapes and sizes and may be mass produced items or made specifically for an individual. The orthotist is responsible for the assessment and fitting of the braces and these include collars, spinal braces, knee braces, insoles and footwear. Please ring 01744 415 580 for all orthotics outpatient appointments, including Newton Community Hospital. Open Monday to Friday from 9am until 4:30pm 


Paediatric Therapy Service

We have an open referral process which means all professionals and parents or guardians can refer to the Children's Therapies Team. Your referral will be triaged by a qualified member of staff and if appropriate will be accepted by our team and the appropriate professional allocated to the child.

If you are making a referral for sensory needs, please complete the appropriate seedling pack available from our occupational therapy resources page and include this with your referral.

Specialist Perinatal 

We provide one to one assessment and ongoing support if you are pregnant or have a baby who is under 24 months, and:

  • Are currently experiencing complex or severe mental health problems
  • Have a history of, or are at risk of, developing severe or complex mental health problems during the perinatal period, even if you are currently well.
