Our Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Clock View hospital, Walton cares for service users who are suffering an acute episode of mental ill-health, who have become so severely distressed that to continue to care for them within the other areas may cause distress or risk to themselves or others. Service users may be at the PICU after being detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.
A dedicated group of specialist doctors and nurses are at the core of the PICU team, organising and supervising the treatment delivered in the unit and providing a lower stimulus environment and access to intensive one-to-one care or support as needed, to aid recovery.
