Who we are

Our team assess, diagnose and treat problems which affect the bones, muscles and joints.

Our team includes physiotherapists, advanced musculoskeletal practitioners, podiatrists, therapy assistants and psychologists. We offer physiotherapy and podiatry services for patients with a musculoskeletal condition.

Our advanced practitioner triage service is able to offer assessment for more complex musculoskeletal conditions and, where appropriate, will request further investigations or will provide an onward referral to a hospital consultant.

Our service is available for adults and children over the age of 16 registered with a Knowsley GP.

We work closely with GPs, podiatry and community therapy teams and have close links with rheumatology, pain and orthopaedic consultants at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust and neurosurgeons at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust.

You can be referred to us by your GP or you can self-refer to the service by completing the online patient referral form

At your first appointment we will take a general medical history and ask you questions about your particular problem. Following consent we will carry out a physical examination, which will include assessing your general and specific mobility.

You will be asked to bring to your appointment:

  • A list of your current medication
  • Your usual footwear, if you are seeing a podiatrist
  • A pair of shorts if we are seeing you for lower limb problems

At the end of this, a diagnosis will usually be provided along with options for treatment. We use a shared decision making approach to enable you to actively participate in choices made about your future management.

You are also welcome to bring someone with you to your appointment if you wish.

We also deliver musculoskeletal services in St Helens.

We have developed information about MSK conditions on our health and wellbeing pages to support you to understand some of the different MSK conditions and provide self-management advice and exercise tips.
