An evidence based group programme to offer Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) to people who experience memory difficulties.
Background to the programme
The Making a Difference Programme was devised from research into effective care for people with memory problems. It was evaluated in a large scale research project (Spector et al 2003).
Those attending the groups reported “increased quality of life” compared to those receiving usual care. The participants also improved on tests of memory and other abilities.
Just as important, these groups can be great fun and enjoyable. Laughter encourages relaxation and, in seeing the funny side of the situation, it helps to look beyond the memory problems to see the real human being.
