What you can and can't bring on a visit

The following items will not be allowed in the hospital:


  • Handbags, holdalls, purses, wallets
  • Mobile phones/pagers
  • Cameras, tape recorders or radio scanners
  • CDs, USB sticks or floppy disks
  • Sharp implements or weapons
  • Lighters or matches
  • Tobacco
  • Food and drinks
  • Aerosols
  • Nail varnish remover/ nail files / tweezers
  • Chewing gum or sweets
  • Safety pins or broaches
  • Drugs or alcohol
  • Glass items/including vanity mirrors
  • Electronic items including laptops, tablet devices, hand held games etc.

Plastic bags are not allowed in to the secure area, however you can transfer any items you have brought with you for your relative or friend into shopping baskets at reception, where staff will check and record them. Any items that can not be taken on to the secure site can be stored in the lockers provided.


Bringing medication


Under normal circumstances medications cannot be taken into the hospital. In exceptional circumstances, where it is vital that you take medication during your visit, please contact your relative/friends social worker.
