Phlebotomy services launch new online blood test booking system

We are aware patients are still experiencing difficulties booking appointments and have asked the views of our communities via a survey, which told us they would prefer to be able to book their blood test online.

It's prompted us to introduce a new digital booking system for patients across Knowsley, Liverpool, South Sefton, and Southport and Formby, who can now book appointments online.

The online booking system has been used by both staff and patients across Liverpool and South Sefton since August 2021 and after recent surveys, has been the preferred method for patients when booking a blood test appointment.

Patients can still call the telephone lines when needed:

• For Liverpool, South Sefton, and Southport and Formby: 0151 285 4548 (8am to 4pm)
• For Knowsley bookings: 0151 351 8530 (9am to 4.45pm).

Children in Knowsley aged between 12 and 16 have routine blood tests taken in the community by Mersey Care instead of Alder Hey Children's Hospital. This service is accessible by appointment only and can be booked by your GP. The following clinic locations and times are available: 

• Litherland Town Hall Health Centre, Hatton Hill Road, Litherland, L21 9JN (2pm to 5pm each Thursday)
• Old Swan Health Centre, Crystal Close, L13 2GA (2pm to 5pm each Wednesday)
• South Liverpool Treatment Centre, Church Road, L19 2LW (2pm to 5pm each Tuesday).

Any urgent paediatric blood tests will still be dealt with by Alder Hey. 

All GP practices must provide patients with a blood form when they are requesting or booking a blood appointment. Patients must bring this with them, or we won’t be able to continue the appointment.
