Mersey Care has achieved the aspiring level of Liverpool City Region's Fair Employment Charter - a new set of guidelines which celebrates good employment practices across the region.

To achieve one of two levels of the charter- Aspiring and Accredited - employers have to guarantee certain work practices which protects their employees and allows job seekers to recognise ethical work places.

The Fair Employment Charter has been championed by Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, and was launched shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic.

It forces employers across the region to make pledges about their behaviour towards their workforce in four different categories - Healthy, Fair, Inclusive and Just - before they are awarded Charter Status.

To achieve Aspiring level, Mersey Care has pledged to:

  • Demonstrate compliance with baseline health and safety requirements and audit homeworking and other policies and engage workforce in developing an approach
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of mental health in the workplace and audit practices to comply with fair hours approach
  • Audit practices to identify any atypical contracts and consider how and whether they are needed
  • Identify those paid below Real Living Wage and put plans in place to work towards achieving the
    level of Real Living Wage
  • Undertake an Equality audit of staff and work towards improvements
  • Plan to meet ACAS guidance on appropriate performance management and training policies
  • Inform staff of their right to join a Trade Union and be willing to offer fair access to Trade Unions
  • Offer work experience where possible and actively consider the benefits of apprenticeships or similar
    opportunities for young people.
