Government issue guidance on face masks for NHS staff, visitors and inpatients

New Government guidance will be implemented from 15 June 2020 which requires all NHS staff, visitors and inpatients to wear face masks while at NHS sites.

Updates on the Government advice can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/face-masks-and-coverings-to-be-worn-by-all-nhs-hospital-staff-and-visitors

Here are some clear reminders if visiting an NHS site:

  • wear a mask at all times unless told specifically otherwise
  • make sure it covers your nose and mouth.
  • wash your hands before putting your mask on and taking it off
  • ask for a new mask if yours becomes soiled/very damp
  • continue to observe social distancing, keeping at least two metres from other people
  • you may politely ask others to put on their mask

Exclusions The circumstances in which a person has a reasonable excuse include those where they cannot put on, wear or remove a face covering or because of any physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability (within the meaning of section 6 of the Equality Act 2010(7)), or without severe distress.
