Corporate Governance

Corporate Governance is the system by which an organisation is directed and controlled, at its most senior levels, in order to achieve its objectives and meet the necessary standards of accountability and probity.

Effective Corporate Governance, along with Clinical Governance, is essential for Mersey Care to achieve its clinical, quality and financial objectives.

Fundamental to effective Corporate Governance is having the means to verify the effectiveness of this direction and control which is achieved through independent review and assurance.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the effective running of our Trust in line with set objectives and priorities. It also sets out the strategic direction of the Trust including the development of services and monitors the quality of these.

To help inform the strategic direction of the Trust, the Board also consults with the Council of Governors which ensures that the views of our members, as well those of the wider community, are represented and help the Trust shape its plans for the future.
