Information on Assessments at Transcend Gender Clinic
This page provides information about the assessment process at Transcend Gender Clinic.
Our service can provide flexible support options, such as assessments for, and diagnosis of, gender incongruence, hormone therapy (including prescriptions and monitoring), referrals to voice therapy, hair removal and gender affirming surgery. The service will work to NHS England’s National Service Specification for gender identity services. Whilst under Transcend we do not replace you GP practice but work in partnership with them.
- The assessment process starts with gathering information about your background, current circumstances, and future goals related to your gender identity
- You will be asked a series of questions to understand your individual needs and how the clinic can best support you
- We want to create a clear picture of your situation and tailor the care provided to your specific circumstances.
- If you haven't yet transitioned socially, our clinician may discuss potential challenges and help you think about ways to address them
- This could include providing information about different aspects of transitioning, such as changing your name, pronouns, or presentation.
The assessment will help determine the most appropriate next steps in your gender care. Depending on your individual needs and goals, this might involve:
- Referrals to other services within the clinic, like voice therapy, psychological therapy, hair removal, or surgery
- Referrals to local services through your GP, such as support groups or additional therapy options.
The clinic will work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan that aligns with your desired outcomes.
Throughout the assessment and treatment process, Transcend will keep your GP updated on your progress. You will also receive copies of any reports sent to your GP, ensuring transparency and collaboration in your care.
Waiting times: As there is a high demand for gender-affirming care in the UK, please be aware that waiting times for assessments and subsequent treatments can be significant.
Accessibility: Transcend strives to offer a flexible range of support options tailored to your individual needs. You will have opportunities to ask questions about your care throughout the process.
The specifics of the assessment process may vary based on individual circumstances and the clinic's evolving practices. Always consult directly with Transcend Gender Clinic for the most up-to-date and personalised information.
