Self care Sunday

Self care is about keeping fit and healthy, as well as knowing how to treat minor ailments and knowing where to seek help when you need it.

Making healthier choices will have a positive impact on your physical and mental health.

Socialisation – close collections are important for your wellbeing, it can be beneficial to talk to a close friend, family member or colleague if you are struggling.

Keeping your mind active is also a form of self care, this could include reading, puzzles or learning something new.

A large range of common illnesses and injuries can be treated at home or with over-the-counter medicines and plenty of rest.

Five steps to wellbeing

There are five steps to help improve your wellbeing that we have outlined below

Connect with others: Feeling valued and connected to others is a basic human need, talking to someone really does help. Why not reach out to a friend to check in, you could even join them doing a hobby they enjoy?

Being active is great for your physical and mental health: Try taking some time out for your day to be active, this could include going for a walk, doing some exercise or going to a class at your local gym.

Learn something new: Have you always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument? Was there a subject in school you wish you could learn more about now? How are you gardening skills? It can be daunting learning something new, but the confidence and sense of self pride you get afterwards is a great reward, plus you’ll meet new people!

Set yourself goals to work towards.

It is the season of giving! Doing something for others can make you feel happier and more connected to your community. You could volunteer at a local charity shop, animal centre or for Mersey Care! Visit our volunteering page to find out more.

Pay attention to the present moment. Try taking a moment out of your day to look at your surroundings, look at the colour of the sky or listen to noises you can hear outside.
