Young people’s mental health
Around one in eight children and young people experience behavioural or emotional problems growing up.
For some, these will resolve with time, while others will need professional support.
It can be difficult to know if there is something upsetting a child or young person, but there are ways to spot when something’s wrong. Look out for:
- significant changes in behaviour
- ongoing difficulty sleeping
- withdrawing from social situations
- not wanting to do things they usually like
- self-harm or neglecting themselves
Remember, everyone feels low, angry or anxious at times. But when these changes last for a long time it might be time to get professional help.
We provide child and adolescent mental health services also known as CAMHS across Halton, Knowsley and St Helens. The service supports children and young people up to age 18 with their emotional and mental health and wellbeing.
CAMHS will work together with the family and the child to decide what support they might need to have good mental health and wellbeing.
Our aim is to help young people get the support they need to tackle any problems early on before they get worse, and to act quickly if they do.
If you think you would benefit from support from CAMHS, make an appointment to see your GP, who will be able to make a referral to our service for you if they think we could help.
