Having a mental health assessment

If someone you are caring for is unwell and comes to Mersey Care, they will have an assessment to help us find out what they need, not just now but to help them and you to plan for the future.

People access these assessments from Mersey care in different ways, but most people will be referred to us by their GP. If they have been referred by their GP, they will be contacted by the Assessment Team who will arrange an appointment for them at our local assessment centres.

In urgent or emergency situations we have mental health teams working in the A & E departments of the three hospitals in our area.

We also have teams who work with Merseyside police who will make sure that if they come to us after contact with police, that their mental health needs are identified and addressed.

What will happen at the assessment and afterwards?
